EDUCARE AUPAIR in America
This is the educational experience you have been waiting for. Experience what an American University has to offer and meet other young Americans whilst you study. You have the time to take University course and complete credits that you can take back home. You stay with a host family, who provide you with your room and board and pocket money, in return for which you commit to 30 hours of child care each week.You can participate in this program for a second time if you have been back in South Africa for a minimum of two years! It is the only legal means of becoming an au pair in the United States.
WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE AN EDUCARE AU-PAIR IN AMERICA:
- Work up to 30 hours per week including some evenings babysitting
- Work a maximum of 10 hours per day, childcare and childcare related housekeeeping only
- Your own private bedroom
- Minimum one and half days free per week with one day being Friday, Saturday or Sunday. One full weekend per month.
- Two weeks days paid vacation.
- Comprehensive health, medical insurance cover provided
- US$1000 provided by host family towards your University courses
- WEEKLY pocket money of US$132.64
- Flight paid from Johannesburg direct to the family.
- Opportunity to take 30 days, after expiration of your visa, to travel around America.
- Return flight paid from host family or gateway on West Coast to Johannesburg, provided you have remained on the program for the full 12 months.
To get onto the program:
- You must be between 18 and 26 inclusive.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be a non smoker
- A driving license would be an advantage.
- Be prepared to make a commitment to a family's child care needs.
- Must have a DVD player and be prepared to watch 32 hours of interactive DVDs, as specified by the American State Department, within 8 days.
